Privacy Policy

Lockout helps you stay focused without harvesting your personal data. Here is what we store, what we don't, and how we protect your privacy.

Privacy at a glance

Offline-First Storage

Lockout works completely offline. Your focus history, routines, and blocklists are stored directly on your phone.

No Accounts Required

Lockout does not have user accounts, profile tracking, or cloud sync. You never submit an email address, password, or phone number.

Zero Ads or Data Brokers

No ads, no data selling, and zero commercial trackers like Google Analytics or Meta Pixel.

Optional Anonymous Analytics

We use Aptabase, an open-source analytics tool, to count basic events like app opens and finished sessions. No personal data or IP addresses are collected, and you can turn it off in Settings.

Complete Legal Policy

Governs all versions of the Lockout mobile application on Android.

1. Architecture & Core Principles

Lockout is built to work offline. We never upload your focus history, blocklists, routines, or unlocked rewards to remote servers. Everything runs entirely on your Android device.

2. Data Stored Locally (SQLite)

Lockout stores your data in a private, local database on your phone to keep track of:

  • Focus session history (start time, duration, completion status)
  • Blocklists (the apps you choose to block)
  • Coin balance and unlocked timer themes
  • Scheduled routines

This database never leaves your phone and is permanently deleted when you uninstall Lockout or clear application data in Android Settings.

3. Optional Anonymous Analytics (Aptabase)

Lockout integrates Aptabase, an open-source, privacy-first analytics tool. We use it to measure high-level counts (such as app opens, completed focus sessions, and app version) to fix bugs and improve stability.

Aptabase does not collect personal data, store IP addresses, or use tracking identifiers. Analytics is completely optional: you can easily enable or disable anonymous usage data at any time during onboarding or under Settings → About & Support.

4. Android Permissions & Usage Evaluation

To block distracting apps, Lockout requests standard Android permissions, including PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS and SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW.

We never transmit your application usage logs or list of installed apps externally. Usage access is evaluated in temporary device memory strictly to determine if the active app is on your blocklist.

5. Third-Party Integrations

Lockout does not partner with commercial data brokers, ad networks, or user profiling vendors. Our only external tool is Aptabase, which operates under strict privacy-preserving standards (GDPR, CCPA, and PECR compliant).

6. Changes to this Policy

Any modifications to this privacy document will be published directly to this page with an updated timestamp. Because Lockout does not maintain user accounts or collect email addresses, we advise users to review this page periodically.

7. Verification & Open Source Audit

Lockout is fully open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0). You can independently verify all network requests, database schemas, and permission usage by reviewing our source repository on GitHub.
